Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race
26 December - NSW, TAS

Over 60 years old, the Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race is an icon of Australia's summer sport and one of the world's great ocean racing classics. Thousands of spectators line the shores of Sydney Harbour each Boxing Day to cheer the crews as they begin the gruelling 628 nautical mile journey to Hobart. 


Hobart Summer Festival
December 2008 - Janurary 2009 - TAS

The waterfront around Salamanca Place buzzes with activity as yachts come and go, buskers, musicians and performers entertain the crowds. The Hobart Summer Festival celebrates what Tasmania is all about - an open community where people come together to toast the arrival of summer, welcome friends and visitors, take part in arts events, share good food, wine and conversation.


Falls Festival
30 December 2008 - 1 Jan 2009 - TAS

The Tasmanian Falls Festival overlooks the stunning Marion Bay and out over Maria Island. The festival features around 50 acts of first class pedigree from home and abroad. Tickets entitle patrons to two nights of free camping onsite and two huge days and nights of entertainment on two stages. Acts include a diverse range of top bands, DJs and comedians. The Falls Festival is also held in Lorne, Victoria.


Sydney Festival
10-31 January 2009 - NSW

The Sydney Festival is the most attended cultural event in Australia and a celebration of Sydney in Summer. For three weeks each January, the Festival offers a rich and diverse program spanning dance, theatre, music, visual arts, film, forums and free outdoor concerts such as those in The Domain.


Australian Open
19 January - 1 February 2009 - NSW

The Australian Open brings the world's hottest players to Melbourne for two weeks of tennis thrills. More than 550,000 spectators attend one of the biggest sporting events in Australia. Join the vibrant atmosphere in and around the city with matches broadcast on big screens, beer garden and live music.


Tour Down Under
18-25 Janurary 2009

The Tour Down Under is now part of the UCI Pro Tour, the highest level of professional road cycling in the world. This six-day race travels through the city streets of Adelaide and picturesque South Australia. Be part of cycling's brilliant party and see the professionals battle it out for the prestigious Ochre jersey.
