When you think of New Caledonia, the idea of wandering down pure white beaches lined by swaying palm trees and aquamarine water generally comes to mind. Recently, Touring Treasures was hosted by Ocean Alliance onboard the 37-metre superyacht, M/Y Masteka 2, for a journey which took the group well beyond the postcard scene.
Masteka 2 is the only foreign-flagged superyacht to have been granted a charter licence in New Caledonia making it unique. The motor yacht brings an unprecedented level of luxury and service to this South Pacific destination. It is a sublime way to discover New Caledonia as the country comprises of innumerable islands in four archipelagos which surround a 24,000 square kilometre lagoon; the largest in the world and protected by UNESCO. It is essentially more water than land and what lies below the sea’s surface undoubtedly is delightful.

Departing from the main port, Noumea, the yacht cruised south to Il Ouen and Mato plus the 5 islands to snorkel on reefs which are home to the most diverse reef structures in the world. The next leg took the group to the world-famous, Iles des Pins, for a private tour and more opportunities to discover this destination above and below the water.
Continuing to Ilot Moro, Touring Treasures was treated to a traditional Melanesian meal only enlivened by the clarity of the water and startling brightness of the sand. At Baie d’Oro, the group swam in the La Piscine Naturelle, the natural pool, followed by lunch at La Meridien and sunset cocktails onboard.

Onwards to Gadji Bay where a local guide and marine biologist led the team on an underwater tour of spectacular proportions. The coral was dazzling and Bastien’s knowledge only served to expand the experience. On land, Gadji Bay boasts a beautiful vanilla plantation. In fact, New Caledonia produces some of the most prized vanilla in the world.
At Baie de Prony and Prony Bay, the colours change as the land turns from white sand to red, volcanic earth. On the support vessels to Masteka II, small exploration groups scoured the foreshore, national park and ruins of the country’s French colonial past. The last day was taken as a leisurely cruise back to Noumea.

The natural beauty of this destination is surprising. The level of service, culinary experience and luxury onboard Masteka II tipped this adventure into the realm of a dream. This country is a giddy combination of tropical Melanesia and French elegance.
“Experiencing a destination onboard a superyacht such as Masteka II is eye-opening. You are unencumbered by real estate and have the means and flexibility to discover the most remote, the most tranquil bays. Yet never far from exceptional service, luxury and accommodation onboard the yacht,” stated Olivier Mercien-Ferol, Co-Founder of Touring Treasures.
